During any weekend, rain or shine, Omaha’s downtown Old
Market is always booming with people shopping, eating out, bar hoping, or even
attending wedding receptions. Although I don’t make it down to the Old Market
as much as I’d like to, when I do stop down I make it a top priority to visit
Second Chance Antiques and Collectibles. Many people don’t realize how much of
a bargain hunter and vintage collector I am. I am all about awesome vintage
finds from furniture, clothing and shoes, handbags, china, and even small knick
knacks. This store has it all in one place.
What is unique about this store is the wide variety of items
that the place buys and sells. The variety attracts some of the strangest
people and the strangest requests for items, but this store has managed to
capitalize on this market. The store offers an upper and a basement level
packed tight with the coolest finds. The upper level mostly houses antique
furniture, china, jewelry, books, and collectables. The store even has building
materials and other miscellaneous hardware items for revamping any living
space. The lower level of the store is dedicated to clothing, shoes, and other
accessories such as hats and bags. I mostly visit the basement of this store to
see all of the wacky outfits that were popular decades ago. But every now and
then, I can find the coolest pair of worn in boots or a handmade vintage brooch
to accentuate any outfit.
Don’t be scared by the numerous cats running around the
store. The owners like having the cats nearby to greet customers. Though it may
seem a tad creepy, the cats add to the charm of the store.
Visit Second Chance Antiques at 11th and Jackson
in the Old Market. But make sure that you go when you don’t have anywhere to
be. It is not unheard of to spend a couple of hours browsing the selection that
the store has to offer. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
